Blood brothers in LFA history

I WAS fortunate to catch up with the Blood brothers last week at a non-UCFL event and it appears that both Barney and David have created a little bit of history within the Leinster Football Association.

With Barney currently holding the LFA PresIdent role, and he will do so until 2016, and David having held the role from 1999 to 2001, the Blood's are the first brothers to have both held the title of President in the LFA's 122 years.

Not all good news in the LFA Junior

WHILE LAST week I highlighted some of the good results the UCFL teams had in the first round of the LFA Junior Cup, unfortunately some sides didn't progress into the second round despite their best efforts.

It was a tough day for some teams with St Canice's unfortunately suffering a heavy 8-2 defeat to one of the LSL's big-boys, Wayside Celtic.

Orchard Celtic lost out 2-1 to Sacred Heart. Celtic missed a late penalty in an attempt to force penalties.

Harding IF also lost out by a single goal at Kingswood FC with the home side netting the only goal of the game.

Sadly there were also defeats for Coolock Village and Superfriends FC. Coolock lost 3-0 to Rivervalley Rangers, while Pegasus/St James Athletic beat Superfriends 2-0.

Shankill surprise

Rovers in UCFL Cup

LAST WEEKEND saw the UCFL Challenge Cup get underway and already there has been a few surprising results with lower division teams sending higher teams crashing out.

Shankill FC caused an upset when the Division 3B side went to Conwell Rovers ,who sit two divisions above them, and defeated them 4-3 after extra-time.

In an all Division 3 clash, Booterstown United caused somewhat of an upset when they defeated Riverside United 3-2.

Booterstown are sitting a few places below Riverside and had lost 2-0 to them in week 2 of the season.

Only one Premier Division side got their campaign started as San Marino FC had a comfortable 7-1 victory away at Division 2 side Castle Celtic.
