Blackrock braced for big battle with Bray
BLACKROCK COLLEGE'S newest crop of soccer stars are looking to follow in the footsteps of former Dublin GAA football star Mark Vaughan in this year's FAIS Leinster Senior Cup.
Kilmacud Crokes man Vaughan was the star player in 2003 when Blackrock last won the Under-19 title and they are now just three wins from repeating that feat.
Following their 2-0 defeat of heavyweights Drimnagh Castle in the last 16, Blackrock will welcome Pres Bray in the last eight.
Brian Horgan and Ross Butler were on target as Blackrock followed up their second-round elimination of Palmerstown CS with another impressive result.
Bray bring impressive pedigree, however, with the spine of their ambitious team made up of last year's Junior Cup-winning side.
St Kieran's College, Kilkenny, were emphatically seen off 6-0 in the last round as Cathal Martin stole the show with a hat-trick.
Dan Treanor, Andy Bartley and Barry Gleeson were also on target for the Wicklow school, who will face Blackrock for the tag of favourites in the semi-finals.
One side safely through to the quarter-final draw is Marian College, Ballsbridge, after they eliminated 2012 runners-up Clonkeen College thanks to a 1-0 win. Eric Reynolds was on target as Marian went improved on last year's round two exit.
The quarter-final clash of Chanel College, Coolock, and St Paul's College, Raheny promises to be a fascinating encounter.
Following their 5-3 win over St Declan's College, Cabra in round one, Paul's needed five goals to edge out a strong Portmarnock CS side 5-4 in round two.
Chanel saw off 2012 competition winners Malahide CS in the first round and scored five to see off Beneavin College, Finglas 5-3 to reach the last eight.
