Best making shirt his own: Pardew

NEWCASTLE United boss Alan Pardew says he can't consider dropping Ireland striker Leon Best because of his current form.

Best scored his fifth goal of the season in the midweek win over Birmingham City and Pardew feels that Best has established the perfect partnership with Peter Lovenkrands.

"Peter and Leon were excellent at Birmingham, they took their opportunity and they deserve their chance. I can't break up that partnership," says Pardew.

"People probably underestimated both Peter and Leon because they weren't playing but they are players of a certain standard and I expect them to perform -- which they did the other night.

"I can't ask for more from them than I am currently getting. They've got a great opportunity and I hope they take it."
