Bell's side will aim for play-offs
Ireland's women's side have been given the toughest test possible in Europe by being drawn with Germany in in the qualifiers for the European Championship finals in 2021.
But while the Germans, ranked second in the world and the top-rated nation in Europe, are expected to win the group, Colin Bell's side will push for a playoff place and a first-ever qualification for a European finals at senior level.
After yesterday's draw Ireland, currently ranked 33rd in the women's national team world rankings, will take on Germany (2nd), Ukraine (24th), Greece (66th) and Montenegro (96th).
The nine group winners and the three best runners-up will qualify for the 2021 finals, held in England, while the other six second-placed teams will enter a playoff.
"We're still a young side so we need to keep working hard in the next international matches and be as prepared as we can be in September," says Bell. "I know we can compete against every team in the group so we'll be looking forward to it."
