Bell will toll for Saints in Cup clash

Leinster Senior League

A few blades are being sharpened as the lower league sides go in search of some Senior Division scalps in the second round of the FAI Intermediate Cup this weekend.

All but one of the top flight clubs made it by the first round, with Phoenix the only club to fall, but a few of the league's lesser lights are waiting to ambush the big guns.

Five-time winners of this competition, Bluebell United need to be on their guard in the morning when St James's Gate make the short journey from the Iveagh Grounds to the Red Cow.

The Gate, winners of this competition back in 1951, sit on the third rung of the intermediate ladder. Having been promoted from Senior 1B, the Gate are finding life tough in their new surroundings, managing three draws in four matches. Their single win came in this competition against Confey in the opening round. The Bell will aim to ensure it is their last.

FAI Intermediate Cup 2nd Round

BLUEBELL UNITED v ST JAMES'S GATE

The Bell have lost just once this term, but got back to winning ways with a northside double against Drumcondra and Killester United. The Gate will attempt to ruffle the home side, but Bluebell are big, strong unit. The Senior Division team should have too much in the tank for the Gate. Verdict: Home Win.

SKERRIES TOWN v UCD

College gained a welcome victory last week when they got the better of Wayside Celtic in the Cahill Cup. Town are one of the lowest ranking LSL teams left in the Inter Cup, they occupy one of the relegation places in Senior 1B at the momen. Once UCD keep their cool, they should advance. Verdict: Away Win.

FIRHOUSE CLOVER v LUCAN UNITED

Another Senior Division versus Senior 1B match-up, but this one has the potential of a giant killing. Lucan are top of 1B at present, winning five of their eight games and have yet to suffer defeat. The visitors are in confident mood, but Firhouse's top-flight experience should tell in the end. Verdict: Home Win.
