Barnsley looking at Dicker

CHAMPIONSHIP side Barnsley are considering a move for Dublin-born midfielder Gary Dicker, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

And former Derry City man Paddy McCourt, without a club since leaving Celtic in the summer, is also on the radar at Oakwell.

Ex-UCD man Dicker was released by Brighton at the end of last season but Barnsley have been alerted and have asked Dicker to come on trial, along with McCourt, who has already spent time training with Peterborough United and Pat Fenlon's Hibernians.

A number of other Irish free agents are also trying to win deals.

Ex-Arsenal man Conor Henderson has been invited on trial by Yeovil Town after faoling to win a contract at Championship rivals Ipswich Town, while Michael Spillane is on trial at Burton Albion.

U19S LOSE TO NORWAY

A late winner from defender Vergard Bergan earned the Norwegian U19s a second win of the week against their Irish counterparts at Belfield yesterday.

After an uneventful opening period Norway took the lead through centre forward Alexander Sorloth with Sam Byrne grabbing an opportunistic equaliser on 71 minutes. But Norway then stepped on the gas and struck the woodwork twice before Bergan's winning header six minutes from time.
