Bamford defects to England
THE DEFECTION to England of former Ireland U18 cap – and Chelsea’s new £1.5m man Patrick Bamford – has been confirmed as the striker has been named in England's U19 squad.
Bamford made headlines with his transfer deadline day move from Nottingham Forest to Chelsea, the Blues willing to pay £1.5m for the 18-year-old who is one of the most highly rated teenagers in England. He qualifies for Ireland through the parentage rule and played for the Irish U18 side in a tournament in the Czech Republic in August 2010, but then played for England’s U18 side just four months later. The 18-year-old now appears to be permanently lost to the English FA as Bamford was yesterday named in an English U19 squad for a friendly against the Czech Republic in London later this month.
It was also thought that Manchester United defender Michael Keane, who recently switched allegiance to England after an 18-month spell with the Irish team, would also be involved for that game.
