AVB tactics criticised by Chelsea owner
SPECULATION on the future of Andre Villas-Boas as Chelsea boss has hit fever-pitch after it was revealed that his tactics were openly criticised by senior players in front of owner Roman Abramovich.
The heated exchanges took place at Chelsea's training ground in Cobham on Sunday after the players were hauled in on their day off following an abysmal performance in their 2-0 defeat by Everton on Saturday.
Abramovich reportedly told the management and playing staff that recent performances were unacceptable.
Chelsea are on a run of four Premier League games without a win and the Russian billionaire is growing increasingly frustrated with the poor results.
He made a number of visits to Cobham last week to view his side's training at close quarters and speculation is rife that unless Chelsea's Premier League form improves and they advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Napoli, Villas-Boas's time in charge at Stamford Bridge will be up.
Abramovich held a number of other meetings with senior members of the Chelsea staff including a two-hour conference with technical director Michael Emenalo on how the club should proceed.
It is understood that the Russian will hold onto Villas-Boas but a continuation of the club's poor form could make his position untenable.
Chelsea face Birmingham this weekend in the fifth round of the FA Cup, but a bigger game will be the clash away to Napoli in next week's Champions League last 16 clash.
