Arsenal are planning to bring in Mikael Arteta as their new manager once Arsene Wenger steps away.

Now 68, Wenger has another year left on his contract with the club after this season, and it's thought that he does plan to step aside at the end of the 2018/19 season.

The Gunners post will attract some of the top coaches in the game but reports from London claim that Arteta, currently assistant manager at Manchester City, will take over from Wenger with his blessing.

The highly-rated Arteta (35) is keen to move into management but with City boss Pep Guardiola eager to extend his contract with the Premier League leaders, former Arsenal captain Arteta may have to leave City to get a chance.

Captain Vincent Kompany will again be a doubt due to a muscular problem as City return to action against Leicester tonight in a League Cup quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Irish teenager Declan Rice will get another chance to prove himself on the big stage when he returns to the West Ham side for their quarter-final clash with the Gunners.

Rice (18) came on as a first-half sub for the injured Mark Noble in Saturday's 3-0 win away to Stoke.

And with Noble likely to miss tonight's quarter final away to Arsenal, David Moyes will give the Ireland U21 cap an opportunity in the side.
