Adam on mark as Reds lose to Roma

CHARLIE ADAM scored what proved to be a consolation as Liverpool lost 2-1 to Roma in a pre-season friendly at Fenway Park in Boston.

The Reds, playing at the home of the Boston Red Sox who, like Liverpool, are owned by the Fenway Sports Group, gave a start to young forward Raheem Sterling.

US international Michael Bradley drove post half-time substitute Brad Jones from a tight angle to open the scoring after 63 minutes. Alessandro Florenzi doubled Roma's lead with 20 minutes remaining. Adam scored with 10 minutes to go.

New signing Fabio Borini could feature against Spurs in Baltimore for the club's final game in North America on Saturday. "It's thinking towards the Europa League game next week," said Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Alberto Aquilani featured against Roma and is currently with the squad after two full seasons on loan in Serie A.

Asked whether he would remain at Liverpool during 2012-13, Rodgers replied: "That remains to be seen. I need to have a close look at Alberto. It's been difficult for him during his time in England."
