Russian bid for Stokes
ANTHONY STOKES could follow his former Celtic and Ireland team-mate Aiden McGeady to the Russian league as Lokomotiv Moscow are lining up a £3 million bid for the striker.
Stokes, 23, has scored 17 goals in 23 games for Celtic this season and that has alerted Lokomotiv ahead of the re-start of the Russian league season in March.
Before the winter break Lokomotiv were sixth in the Russian league and are desperate to push for a Champions League place.
Despite signing Polish striker Pawel Brozek on loan from Trabzonspor yesterday Celtic are not desperate to sell Stokes and are likely to reject Lokomotiv's initial bid.
But if the Moscow club are willing to raise that to £5m Neil Lennon may decide to cash in and sell the Dubliner.
Celtic are not under pressure to do business today as the Russian transfer window doesn't close until February 24.
