Upwardly mobile Ulster set to be grounded at Parc y Scarlets

Scarlets v Ulster, Parc y Scarlets, Friday 7.05, Live Setanta Ireland

Ulster have been boosted by the decisions of Ireland prop Tom Court and Scotland wing Simon Danielli to stay with the province for another two seasons.

For sure, it is a sign of the present good health of the club and the upwardly mobile profile of many of the young players that are fighting for recognition from coach Brian McLaughlin.

However, the manner of their folding to barely survive for a 22-22 draw at home to the Dragons two weeks ago is a reminder of how every opponent has to be taken on their merits.

Certainly, the Scarlets are a step up from the Dragons, in terms of the threats they bring to the pitch.

Coach Nigel Davies was able to choose from Wales hookers Matthew Rees and Ken Owens and the powerful centre Jonathan Davies, all released by Warren Gatland, for this evening.

Verdict: Scarlets

The Scarlets: D Newton; J Ajuwa, R King, J Davies, A Fenby; R Priestland, T Knoyle; I Thomas, K Owens, D Manu, L Reed, D Day, J Turnbull, R Pugh, D Lyons (capt).

Ulster: J Smith; T Nagusa, D Cave, P Wallace, A Trimble; I Humphreys, I Boss; T Court, N Brady, BJ Botha, E O'Donoghue, R Caldwell, D Tuohy, D Pollock, C Henry (capt).
