Tullamore to face Monivea in Junior Cup

TULLAMORE qualified for their third All Ireland Junior Cup Final when beating visitors Westport at the penultimate stage in Spollenstown last Saturday, while Cill Dara, Edenderry and Gorey progressed to the second round of the Provincial Towns Cup.

The hard-earned 21-8 win against the Mayo side means the Offaly club will play Monivea from Galway in tomorrow week's decider that will take place in Dubarry Park, Athlone.

Wet weather was the order of the day all round on Saturday and immense credit is due to all sides for serving up such good fare, particularly in the contest between Cill Dara and Portarlington.

Port raced into a 10-0 lead in as many minutes but the home side battled back. Centre Paddy Behan brought his ace kicking game to bear after the break as he kept the ball in front of his pack while keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

Cill Dara now travel to face the winners of tonight's eagerly awaited re-fixed first round game between Longford and Mullingar.

Edenderry are on the march again following their 9-3 home win over Athy which set up a visit to the winners of tomorrow's Roscrea v Co Carlow first round tie.

Gorey made it a hat-trick of home wins in Saturday's Towns Cup action as they saw off the challenge of Clondalkin on a 16-9 scoreline. They'll play Kilkenny next.

In the Leinster League last Saturday, Roscrea beat Kilkenny 13-11 to keep their Division 2A title hopes alive. Mullingar beat Wexford Wanderers 43-5 to move up to second place in Division 2B.

The Provincial Towns Seconds Cup kicks off on Sunday with holders North Meath travelling to Tullow to commence their defence of the trophy.
