Masterson's injury-time heroics edge out 'Bridge
PRES Bray full-back Dermot Masterson thwarted Newbridge with a 43m penalty five minutes into injury time to carve out a dramatic 12-10 win in the Leinster Schools Senior Cup first round at Templeville Road yesterday.
It was difficult not to sympathise with 'Bridge, who looked like stealing it with their own late try by Phil O'Neill - their second of the match against Masterson's four penalties.
Ireland U19 centre Tom Farrell was the spearhead in Castleknock's 18-3 defeat of St Mary's at Donnybrook on Tuesday.
The captain was 'Knock's greatest source of go-forward and the decoy in wing Michael Mellett's opening try.
Fly-half Robert Troy kicked eight points and scrum-half Daragh Henry surged away for their other try against a single penalty from St Mary's out-half Conor Corcoran.
Gonzaga No10 Conor McKeon had the bottle to convert a 61st-minute penalty that completed a 6-3 come-from-behind win over St Gerard's at Stradbrook.
The losers moved into the lead from wing Sam Kingston's penalty in the 13th minute.
McKeon put them back where they started with his first penalty in the 25th minute and did even better just after the hour.
