Khan-Peterson rematch in Vegas

BOXING: Amir Khan’s camp has taken steps to ensure there will be no repeat of the issues which beset his loss to Lamont Peterson when the two meet for a rematch in Las Vegas on May 19.

Peterson has agreed to a rematch at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has revealed he had sought guarantees over the security at ringside this time.

He said: “We have a deal, we are all set. (Security) will be very tight and Las Vegas is the best commission in the world, and I know they are going to make sure that everything is going to be totally above board.”

Retired Ullrich given CAS ban

CYCLING: Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich has conceded, after receiving a two-year ban for blood doping, that he had “contact” with Spanish doctor Eufemiano Fuentes.

Ullrich did not directly acknowledge doping but said

he would not contest yesterday’s ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Ullrich said that he accepted the ban, “not because I agree with every point in the reasoning for the ruling, but because I want to put an end to the issue”.

CAS ruled that the German, who won the 1997 Tour and retired in 2007, was “fully engaged” in Fuentes’ doping programme, exposed in the Operation Puerto probe. The court stripped him of his third-placed finish at the 2005 Tour.

“I confirm that I had contact with Fuentes. I know that this was a big mistake, which I regret much,” the German rider said.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka limited Australia to 231 as they go in search of a first win in the CB Series in Perth today.
