In a recent survey, the Irish players voted 75-80% in favour of the retention of the seven-week model that currently exists for the Six Nations.

"I have a personal view and that stems from a player welfare space and that's, yes, it shouldn't be less than seven weeks," said CEO Omar Hassanein, of the rebranded Irish Rugby Players.

The push from the French and English clubs to condense the Six Nations into a five or six-week period is a power play by The Big Two.

"We're a smaller playing body and surely to God a contracted or truncated series is going to disadvantage us, Wales, Italy and Scotland.

"That creates a greater divide surely with England and France," he said.
