IRFU confirm Johnny Sexton will be available to face France next week
JOHNNY SEXTON has been given the all-clear to make his Six Nations return against France at the Aviva Stadium next week.
The Ireland fly-half met his neurologist Dr Jean-Francois Cherman in Paris yesterday for a final consultation on the head injuries that have kept him out of action since the November win over Australia.
Sexton suffered concussion in the closing stages of that game, his fourth in 2014, and after suffering lingering effects of the injury he was stood down from contact for a minimum period of 12 weeks that expires next Saturday when Ireland play their second game of the campaign.
He was scheduled to return on St Valentine’s Day, but had to get permission from medical officials to do so. Yesterday’s consultation was his final test and the IRFU confirmed he had passed and would be available.
The Racing Metro star misses tomorrow’s opening game along with Jamie Heaslip, Eoin Reddan and Cian Healy, but Joe Schmidt hopes to have all four available for round two.
