'Henry return a matter of when'

Ireland assistant coach Les Kiss has admitted that he fully expects Ireland star Chris Henry to continue playing rugby following his recovery from corrective heart surgery.

The flanker faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines but Kiss revealed that he had been in contact with Henry (right) since his successful operation and that he anticipates that he will return.

"I think it's a when (rather than and an if)," Kiss said when asked if he expects Henry to recover sufficiently.

"I had a text from Chris reporting back that he felt really great. The procedure went well.

"Nothing has been given a clear timeline.

"It's about getting him well and healthy in the next few weeks and then assess him.

"The big thing now for Chris is just get into a position where he is well and healthy again and then consider when he returns to play."

Meanwhile, Joe Schmidt is also recovering well after having his appendix removed in the aftermath of Saturday's win over Australia. Schmidt fell ill on the morning of the game before being taken to hospital afterwards.

"I spoke with Joe a couple of times and we have been in contact by email - there is communication. Joe is tough," Kiss said.

"He is in a good place and we are all working away trying to ensure that we are thinking and going forward in the right way."
