Gill gives Mary's big boost with Irish inclusion
St Mary's College and Leinster player Gill Nolan has been named in Ireland's 25-player squad for the RBS Women's 6 Nations Championship.
Before Christmas, three St Mary's players were named in the Ireland Women's training squad of 34 players, which signified real development for the women's team as that was the largest contingent that they had ever had in an Ireland squad.
Congratulating the three girls, President Ronnie McBrien said it was a great honour for the club, the girls themselves, and the coaching staff at Templeville Road and surely a true indicator of the progress of woman's rugby at the club.
St Mary's and Leinster team-mates Orla Fitzsimons, Gill Nolan and Michelle Ross were named in the 34-player Ireland training Squad.
Nolan and Ross were named in the Ireland squad last season, however, Nolan was unfortunate to miss out on the Championship as she sustained an injury shortly after selection which ruled her out of the entire Six Nations campaign.
Nolan gets a real chance to stake her claim for a green jersey this year as her continued hard work and dedication with Province and club this season has once again paid off.
A stalwart of the Mary's team for many seasons now, her talent and experience gained her first Leinster caps last season which she built on this season to start all of Leinster's matches in the Interprovincial competition.
Speaking of Nolan's selection in the Ireland Squad, St Mary's captain Paula Fitzpatrick offered congratulations on making the squad and claimed it was just rewards for all the hard work she had put into her game over the last number of years, and a perfect example to the rest of the Mary's team that practice, commitment and the right attitude will get you far.
From all at St Mary's College a big congratulations and best of luck to Gill in the upcoming campaign!
