Fardy to fore for Blues in Canada clash

Leinster will contribute to the pre-World Cup narrative when they take on Canada in Hamilton, Ontario today (KO 8.0pm Irish time) in their second pre-season hit-out.

Coach Leo Cullen has taken the position to put out what looks like his strongest available team to compete with the last nation to qualify for Japan.

Just as well, given the Canadians motivations, that Scott Fardy is on hand to captain in an interesting lock combination with Ryan Baird.

Charlie Ryan will lead Leinster A into the start of their Cetlic Cup campaign against Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park today (KO 2.30)

Meantime, the opening fixture for the Champions Cup has fallen as kindly as it could have for the Blues with familiar foes Benetton Treviso coming to the RDS on Saturday, November 16.

However, Leinster will have to combat French club Lyon a week later in what will be a tricky assignment given the demands of the World Cup.

The pre-ordained Christmas Champions Cup cracker has been reserved for Northampton Saints at the Aviva on Saturday, December 14.
