Doyle's heroics squeeze Terenure past Blackrock

Replacement flanker David Doyle arrowed over for the decisive try to squeeze Terenure College past long-time rivals Blackrock College 17-15 in the Leinster Schools Senior Cup first round at Donnybrook yesterday, writes Des Berry.

Blackrock made all the early running as scrum-half Jack O'Carroll struck a penalty, but centre Colin Jones powered over for a try on Terenure's first attack for fly-half Stephen O'Neill to convert in the 25th minute.

'Rock flanker Paddy Hinkson got in on the act with a try to catapult them back in front. O'Neill's penalty squared it at 10-all at the break.

Doyle turned out to be the hero with a try on the hour, crucially converted by full-back Billy Dardis.

This proved to be decisive as 'Rock conjured a move for wing Shane McDonald to plunge in at the corner, but they were unable to seal the conversion that would have forced a replay.
