Connacht claimed a losing bonus-point from their four tries from a brave 36-27 loss to The Scarlets in Wales last night.

They went toe-to-toe with the champions and gave as good as they got to lead 22-19 in the 35th minute from tries by out-half Jack Carty and wings Cian Kelleher and Tiernan O'Halloran.

Connacht just had to hold it together to the break to really sow a seed of doubt in The Scarlets.

However, Leigh Halfpenny followed the examples of wing Steff Evans and out-half Rhys Patchell in bursting through for a try the full-back rounded up to seven for 26-22 at the interval.

The expected explosion of points, thereafter, never really materialised as Halfpenny struck for three ahead of Kelleher's double taking the Western Province to within two points in the 73rd minute.

That man Tadhg Beirne prised a losing bonus-point out of their grip with the closing try, converted by Halfpenny.
