Browne: Croker key to bid for World Cup

CROKE Park will have to form part of any plans to stage the 2023 Rugby World Cup, according to IRFU chief Philip Browne.

The Union is currently considering plans to launch an audacious bid to hold the tournament here in 11 years time.

Browne believes that any successful bid would have to include GAA headquarters and its 82,300 capacity.

"I'm sure at some point in time if we wanted to progress it, we would need to sit down and talk about Croke Park," he said.

"Our existing facilities would be adequate in terms of the qualities of facilities, there just isn't enough of them.

"There are also options if we were going to host it whether we hold it only in Ireland or include Scotland and Wales, where there would be excellent facilities. It's a work in progress."
