ON the eve of the recent Ireland v England international, Bective Rangers FC played Hammersmith & Fulham RFC in a Vets (Over 35s) friendly on the back pitch in Donnybrook.
Hammersmith & Fulham is the former club of the late, great Stuart Mangan, and under the stewardship of Captain Chris Hunt raised approximately €50,000, a remarkable amount, for both the English RFU Charitable Trust and The IRFU Charitable Trust for injured players in England and Ireland.
The game itself was a close affair with the English team winning by eight tries to six.
All the players stayed on to watch the Ireland v England 'Legends' game on the main pitch in Donnybrook, followed by a memorable sing-song in the clubhouse. The highlight for many was the sing-song led by Shane Byrne and Trevor Brennan in Kielys of Donnybrook.
Bective hope to make a return trip next year. Thanks to referee Eamonn Sayers, Bective manager Johnny Vaughan, captain Kevin O'Brien, Alan Dolan and Michael Davitt.
