All Blacks lock Ali Williams hobbled off after just three minutes of his return to rugby today and could be out for up to 12 months.
The 28-year-old was playing a pre-season game for the Auckland Blues against fellow Super 14 side the Waikato Chiefs when he was injured.
New Zealand media outlets said Williams had ruptured his Achilles again, while the New Zealand RFU said surgery could rule him out for a year.
Grewcock gets ban for stamp
Bath's tough season suffered another blow when Danny Grewcock was banned for seven weeks.
Grewcock, 37, was sent off for stamping on the arm of Ulster and Ireland flanker Stephen Ferris during last weekend's Heineken Cup clash.
Grewcock is set to miss six Bath games after his suspension was increased from five weeks to seven because of his poor disciplinary record.
