Rogers to join Dundalk

PREMIER Division champions Dundalk will complete a deal for Sligo Rovers keeper Gary Rogers in the next 24 hours, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

And the Oriel Park club will also say goodbye to long-serving keeper Peter Cherrie, who is expected to return to his native Scotland after he was not offered a new contract for next season.

Rogers, 33, established himself with St Patrick's Athletic and won a league title with Sligo in 2012 but he's now opted to leave the Showgrounds and will hook up with Kenny at Dundalk for 2015.

Sligo's new boss Owen Heary has already signed a replacement for Rogers as Ryan Coulter, who impressed for Athlone Town last season despite their drop back into Division One, will move to Sligo for next season.

Dundalk have already re-signed key members of their title-winning squad such as Andy Boyle, Brian Gartland, Daryl Horgan and Kurtis Byrne but talks with Pat Hoban, Richie Towell and Stephen O'Donnell are ongoing.
