Robbie set for Villa lease

Ireland captain ROBBIE KEANE could be on the verge of a sensational return to the Premier League with Aston Villa keen to bring the Tallaght native to Birmingham on a two-month loan deal.

Despite ruling out any return to Europe following his MLS triumph with the LA Galaxy in November, Keane would be tempted by the offer of joining up with Richard Dunne and Shay Given at Villa Park.

Alex McLeish is desperate to bring in new firepower, with the Villans registering a paltry 22 goals in the first half of the season.

Keane would need clearance from both LA Galaxy and the MLS -- plus a big insurance payment -- to make the move happen.

The 31-year-old's LA team mate Landon Donovan has already joined up with Everton for a second loan spell and Thierry Henry looks destined to rejoin Arsenal on a similar loan deal.

Any move would come as great news for Irish manager Giovanni Trapattoni, who will want his skipper to maintain his form and fitness for the European Championships next June.
