Raheny put in shade by super Sars

Lucan Sarsfields2-12 Raheny0-12

REFEREE Darragh Sheppard threw up the ball. "On the button of 7.30," said a voice in the crowd.

The evening couldn't have been better. The bright lights of Innisfails were on, and the pitch had got a short back and sides.

Lucan were also very much on the money. They enjoyed a blistering start. And at the interval, they led by 1-10 to 0-4. Full-forward, Emmet Ó Conghaile, was giving Raheny a bundle of problems.

Left corner-forward, Brendan Gallagher, was also buzzing. He scored a goal on four minutes.

It was a moment of rich skill and vision and he placed the most delicious lob into the basket.

Brendan also helped himself to a tidy collection of points, one which was set up by a peach of a pass from right half-back, Paul Casey.

The Dublin hurling captain, Johnny McCaffrey, was also keeping busy, latching onto breaking ball and sending in some dangerous emails.

Zest

The Lucan midfielder Andy Hope put in a huge shift. And there was so much zest in Lucan's play. They were moving the ball briskly, and their passing was top-class.

Raheny found it difficult to make an impression. The Lucan rearguard were giving nothing away. Yet following the interval, Raheny began to make a game of it. They enjoyed far more possession and they created a basket of chances. Taking them proved the hard bit.

Donal Ryan led the recovery charge. He led the line superbly.

And he was supremely accurate off the placed ball. Raheny began to show belief.

They were running hard at the Lucan hall-door, and the Sars defence had to be on the toes.

Raheny were reducing the deficit all the while. Two Johnny McCormack points proved valuable for Lucan. With four points between them, Raheny almost produced a goal. They then brought it back to three points.

But in injury-time, Ó Conghaile sped clear, made room and found the bottom of the net. Game over.

The decent-sized crowd made their way for home. They had seen a fine hour.
