Points chase goes on in New Zealand for Ireland's hopefuls

Four of Ireland's Olympic hopefuls continue the chase for ranking points at this weekend's World Triathlon Series round in Auckland, New Zealand.

First up is Aileen Reid, who finished 24th in her season opener, who takes on world champion Gwen Jorgenson of the USA and a strong field of over 50 top triathletes.

Bryan Keane, Conor Murphy and Ben Shaw go in the men's race over the standard Olympic distance of a 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run.

Last weekend, Shaw (pictured) finished 18th in the New Plymouth World Cup over the sprint distance, setting the pace with a strong swim.

Just behind him was Murphy, who ended up 28th from the field of 75.

Irish triathletes were also in action at the Quarteira European Cup in Portugal, where national aquathlon champion Carolyn Hayes finished 20th of the women and Russell White 18th of the men. Locally, the National Duathlon Championships take place tomorrow in Ennis.
