University challenge

The first full round of fixtures in 2012 sees Dublin universities clash in the Nivea For Men's SuperLeague when DCU Saints visit UCD Marian, 11890 Killester make a difficult trip to an in-form UCC Demons and, also tomorrow, Belfast Star host Bord Gáis Neptune.

Today, a busy weekend for UCD Marian and Belfast Star sees the two sides also clash, while Moycullen host UL Eagles.

In the Nivea Women's SuperLeague today, leaders UL travel to Waterford Wildcats and Ulster Rockets will be looking to cause a surprise by beating Team Montenotte Hotel.

Tomorrow, DCU Mercy will be favourites to overcome Liffey Celtics, while Singleton's SuperValu Brunell and Meteors face Killester and Oblate Dynamos respectively.

Inflicting

UCC Demons will start 2012 in confident mood after ending the year with a spectacular 99-64 derby success over Neptune and starting the new year with a comfortable 88-65 win over Moycullen.

Their current form is the perfect boost ahead of their mouth-watering National Cup clash with old foes Neptune this month, but their focus this weekend will be on inflicting further woe on Killester and closing in on the top of the Southern Conference.

For Killester, their overtime defeat by DCU Saints last week saw them lose ground on their Dublin rivals at the top of the Northern Conference.

Their loss to Saints was all the harder to take considering they once led by 16 points in the contest.

Killester's Nivea Women's SuperLeague team can also look forward to a fascinating January as they currently lie fourth in the league and have a National Cup semi-final clash with capital rivals DCU Mercy to look forward to.

Tomorrow, they make the trip to Cork to face a Singleton's SuperValu Brunell side, who have enjoyed two wins from their 10 games so far this season. The previous meeting between the two sides saw Killester earn a 76-58 win in November.
