Mount Temple ended a 14-year wait for an 'A' level win over St Andrew's last week when they secured a 5-3 win in pool one of the Junior League.

It continued a superb run for the Mullins family as John followed up his older brother Kevin's trio of hat-tricks in three games with one of his own, helping the Malahide Road school come from 2-0 down to secure a famous result. Kevin, an Irish Under-18 international, had scored one at schools level as well as for the first team of his club, Clontarf and then for their Under-21s in cup competition.

After two early Andrew's counter-attack goals had put Temple on the back foot, Mullins whipped home a drag-flick from one of his side's eight first-half corners and then levelled matters from play.

St Andrew's restored the lead in the second period but Mullins rebounded his own drag-flick before Noah Goggins and Jack Honan swung the tie Temple's way.

Significantly, it was a first win for a Mount Temple 'A' team over Andrew's since 1999's All-Ireland Schoolboys qualifiers when the likes of Gareth Borland – a coach at the school now – and Ken Treacy were among the top performers.

It leaves them top of the table while Andrew's have a battle on their hands to make the semi-finals having already lost to St Columba's 5-2.

STRONG

Most of the schoolboy leagues are still very much in the embryonic phases but Sutton Park have made a strong start at senior level with wins over Mount Temple, High School B and Dundalk putting them in a decent position to advance along with St Andrew's.

Pool 2 of the senior leagues looks set to be a complicated affair with Newpark currently topping the group, albeit with three draws from four games. High School, King's Hospital and Wesley are all unbeaten, though, having played either one or two games each.
