Sutcliffe sets his standards

Dublin boxing fans will be travelling to Dundalk tonight for what promises to be an action-packed bill featuring many of Phil Sutcliffe Snr's Crumlin Gym stars, including the pro debut of Philip Sutcliffe Jr at light welterweight.

National senior champion in 2009, Sutcliffe earned a European Union bronze the same year.

"I'll be 24 in June so I'm not waiting around," says Sutcliffe Jr. "I'm relaxed with the headguard off. I don't mind who I fight."

His coach, Phil Snr, says the plan is to have him gain experience of the pro game over a few bouts and be ready to claim an Irish title within 12 months.

Also in Dundalk tonight will be popular Anthony Fitzgerald, following his heroics against the more experienced Andy Lee in Belfast.

Willie Casey marks his return to Sutcliffe's gym tonight.

The Irish Boxing Writers' Association's Prospect of the Year, super featherweight Anthony Cacace, is also on the bill.
