Smith steps down with Lynch salute

FRANK SMITH has left high office. He enjoyed much success in his three years as president of the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland.

The PPUI's annual convention in Athlone granted him a wonderful ovation. His final act as the boss was to induct the former president Billy Lynch into the Hall of Fame.

It was a memorable convention. National PRO Padraig O'Shea was charmed by the occasion, especially when the business of the day was concluded.

"People dealt with the matters in hand and they were still able to enjoy themselves.

"It would be marvellous if this could be a template for the year."
