Setanta produce stirring finish to book final berth

Venz and Carl Pagayonan led from the front in Tuesday's U16 'C' boys semi-final at the Tallaght Leisure Centre as Dublin's Coláiste Pobail Setanta won out in a tight contest against Kilkenny's Coláiste Pobail Osraí.

Their 28-24 victory was achieved as a result of a stirring final quarter as Carl Pagayonan dropped in a series of baskets to finally scupper Coláiste Pobail Osraí's brave challenge.

The first quarter had proved a very tight one, with Venz Pagayonan showing a good eye for the basket.

Coláiste Pobail Osraí soon knuckled down to the task in hand with their captain Ronan de Butleir moving his team forward with some strong running from the base of the court.

And coupled with some determined defence from Pádraig Ó Fearghail, the Kilkenny outfit had levelled the scoring at the end of the quarter 6-6.

The start of the second quarter was to see Coláiste Pobail Osraí repress two attacks from Coláiste Pobail Setanta. But a late spurt from the Clonee school was to see both Venz and Carl drop in baskets to hand Coláiste Pobail Setanta a narrow 16-12 advantage at the break.

Coláiste Pobail Osraí then produced a strong third quarter, with de Butleir and Ó Fearghail prominent as they outscored their rivals 6-2 to draw the sides level.

However, a terrific start to the final quarter saw Setanta move away, with Carl Pagayonan (2) and Urosh Kutijevac landing three unanswered baskets.
