Mwale-inspired Tiernan's sights are set on Greenhills

SENIOR B Cup newcomers St Tiernan's Community School have their sights set on an impressive third-straight victory over a recent winner on their way to the semi-finals.

The Balally school followed up their dramatic extra-time success over 2010 winners Coláiste de híde in round one with the result of the competition.

Tiernan's put in a five-star display to dethrone holders St Killian's DSD, running out 5-3 winners on the day.

One of the Herald's October Star of the Week winners, Ernest Mwale, starred again with a second-successive brace, while Maxwell Nkocha grabbed a hat-trick of his own.

Tiernan's now face fellow Dublin southsiders Greenhills College in the quarter-finals and, following the recent 2-2 draw between the sides in the league, everything is on the line.

Greenhills last won the competition in 2011, but will have to be at their best if they are to build on a 4-0 victory over yet another recent tournament winner, Mount Seskin, in the last-16.

The semi-finals could feature two teams from the capital if Patrician College, Finglas can continue their impressive form.

The northsiders put eight goals past Sutton Park – who had won their own earlier game 7-1 – in round two, with strikers Patrick Collins and Lee Lyndsey grabbing hat-tricks.

Ireland U17 and recent Leinster Schools InterProvincial star Cian Kavanagh makes the Finglas side tick.

The school, which produced big names like former Ireland and Liverpool star Ronnie Whelan, went all the way to All-Ireland glory after winning this competition in 2007. They will face the winners of Coláiste Mhuire, Cabra and Franciscan College, Gormanston, in the last eight.
