Mickelson takes lead as Harrington left in dark

GOLF: Phil Mickelson rode the conditions to lead at the end of day one of the Northern Trust Open in Pacific Palisades, California.

The four-time major winner, who tasted success at Pebble Beach last weekend, hit a five-under 66 to put him one clear of JB Holmes and Hunter Mahan.

Play was suspended early due to darkness with all but a handful of rounds complete, including that of Ireland's Pádraig Harrington, who was at one over with two holes to play when darkness fell.
