McIlroy: I want more Tiger duels
RORY McIlroy wants to create an epic sporting rivalry with Tiger Woods after holding off the American to win the Honda Classic in Florida and claim the world number one spot.
Woods propelled himself back onto golf’s radar with a stunning final round 62, but it wasn’t good enough to catch the mercurial McIlroy.
After defeating one of golf’s true greats, McIlroy can’t wait for further duels with Woods in the years to come.
“I think it is great for golf. It creates a lot of interest and I'd love to be able to go down the stretch with him (Woods) a lot more,” said McIlroy.
“It was always a dream of mine to become the world number one, the best player in the world, whatever you want to call it.
“But I didn't know that I would be able to get here this quickly. Hopefully I can hold onto it for a little longer.”
