The race for the annual St Patrick's Day pay-day has stepped up a gear with both Andy Lee and Matthew Macklin knocking on the door of Sergio Martinez following the world middleweight champion's recent 11th-round stoppage of Darren Barker.
At ringside for Sky Sports, Macklin liked what he saw and reckons he has the tools to unlock the Argentine southpaw. "I've spotted things I can take advantage of," says Matthew (28-3). "Our styles would gel for a sensational fight."
Keen to take his challenge to the highest court, Macklin has relocated to New York where he's signed a deal with Lou DiBella, who also happens to promote Martinez.
... but so does Lee!
Limerick's Andy Lee believes he should be considered top of the pecking order for a shot at the Martinez crown -- and the door could just be ajar for a middleweight.
If DiBella pulls something sensational out of the hat, what might the chances be of Macklin and Lee getting it on in Madison Square Garden in March? Apart from the purse, the promise of a shot at Martinez might make it happen.
