Jimenez out of action for three months
GOLF: Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez will be out of action for at least three months after a skiing accident during the festive season.
The 48-year-old, who became the oldest winner in European Tour history when he won in Hong Kong last month, was skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountain region yesterday when he broke his right leg in a fall.
EQUESTRIAN: Ireland's Denis Lynch was consistently in the money at the 5-Star show in Mechelen, Belgium, but clear rounds proved elusive for all three Irish contenders in yesterday's World Cup qualifier.
On Friday, Lynch was third in the Masters with Vedor and on Saturday night he produced a brilliant double-clear from All Star to claim third again in the Grand Prix, which was won by Frenchman Simon Delestre. But a single error from the exciting stallion denied the Tipperary man a place in yesterday's World Cup jump-off, while Jessica Kuerten (Vincente) also made just one mistake andMark McAuley (Par Trois) collected eight faults.
TENNIS: Caroline Wozniacki's first trip to the Brisbane International ended in a shocking 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) first-round loss to Kazakhstan qualifier Ksenia Pervak this morning. Wozniacki struggled with her serve as she lost the second set and then had difficulty in the third countering powerful groundstrokes from the left-handed Pervak.
