Henderson frustrated by lack of Irish contact

CHARLTON'S Irish 'keeper Stephen Henderson (pictured, above) has admitted his frustration at being ignored by the Republic of Ireland set-up.

Henderson, 26, has helped Charlton move into the playoff places in the Championship but even when Martin O'Neill has named four 'keepers in his senior Ireland squad there's no place for the former U21 cap with Premier League back-up keepers Shay Given and Rob Elliot, who have not played a single league game this season, chosen ahead of him.

"It looks like I am seventh or eighth in line at the minute and it's hard to take," says Henderson, who joined Charlton from West Ham in the summer.

"I am playing every week for a Championship club that's aiming for the playoffs and and I am told I am playing well. It's a hard pill to swallow.

"I am not getting any younger in terms of the international team.

"I wanted to make my debut for Ireland years ago, I am 27 next May and I am way down the pecking order, sixth or seventh choice for Ireland or worse."
