Glenville duo putt up fight

THE Dubs didn't take the top prize, but they still got a ticket to the winner's enclosure at the National Mixed Championship finals.

Glenville duo Stella Sheridan and Frank Connolly left Cork with the distinction of having carded the best second 18 score.

It was the first time the tournament was staged at Fermoy since 1987.

On that occasion, Dublin took gold through the Mahony's of RGSC.

Local knowledge -- as it so often does -- prevailed this time as Aislish Sexton and David Sexton of the host club hit the jackpot.

Sixty pairs took part. Brophy Brothers Builders were the sponsors. And the event, which began in 1971, is still one of the most popular on the circuit.
