Eagles to soar in league clash

UL Eagles return to the rigours of league action in the Nivea For Men's SuperLeague following their dramatic National Cup win over UCC Demons.

The Eagles ended a drought of 10 years without a trophy last Friday, when they defied the odds to beat Demons 72-65 in the National Cup final.

Mark Keenan's side will be hoping the cup doesn't provide a hangover to their league ambitions as they prepare to face a much improved Moycullen on Saturday night.

UCC Demons will be desperate for a return to winning ways following their cup heartache but their hopes will be tested against a strong DCU Saints outfit.

Saints currently occupy top spot in the Northern Conference and another win on the road this weekend would almost ensure home advantage in the play-offs in March.

11890 Killester got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion at home to UCD Marian last weekend and another win away to Belfast Star in their latest outing will be a must if they are to maintain their challenge on the Saints at the top of the Northern Conference.

UCD Marian have endured a miserable couple of weeks with three league defeats and will be underdogs ahead of their trip to Bord Gais Neptune on Sunday. The Students have also lost to Mark Scannell's side twice already this season.

In the Nivea Women's SuperLeague, UL will be buoyant ahead of their clash at home to Singleton's SuperValu Brunell.

James Weldon's side capped off a fantastic week for Limerick last Friday when they lifted the National Cup in such impressive circumstances. The Limerick side are unlikely to show signs of rustiness against Brunell given they have claimed 28 consecutive wins.

DCU Mercy deserve huge credit for making a quick return to winning ways, when they managed to beat Singleton's SuperValu Brunell just two days after their hopes of a three in a row cup success was denied. This weekend, their task is likely to be even more difficult as they face fellow title chasers Team Montenotte Cork.
