Dubs deliver on double in Gowran
Dublin champion Mitchell Byrne of Rathfarnham WSAF AC won the Leinster Intermediate Cross-Country title in Gowran, Co Kilkenny.
Byrne was an emphatic winner of the race, with Sean Doran of Clonliffe Harriers over a minute behind for second and Mick Fogarty of Ferbane AC third. Tullamore Harriers proved best of the teams ahead of Raheny Shamrock.
Winning the women's title was Lisa Madden of Sportsworld AC, who just held off Nadine Donegan of Tullamore Harriers for victory, with Linda Conroy of Mullingar Harriers a close third. For the team title, Raheny Shamrock beat Rathfarnham WSAF. Dublin took the county medals in both the men and women's races.
Winning the men's masters race was Rossa Hurley of Donore Harriers, who had won the Dublin title only a week earlier. Tom Lupton of Portlaoise AC was second - just holding off Karol Cronin of Sportsworld AC. Sportsworld also took team gold.
Taking M60 gold was Martin McDonald of Ballyroan Abbeyleix and District who was back in familiar territory after his family's notable outing in 'Ireland's Fittest Family'.
In the women's race, victory went to Michelle Cox of Newbridge AC. Noreen Brouder of Sportsworld AC was second and Kate Purcell of Raheny Shamrock third. Jackie Carthy of Kilmore AC was fourth and first W45, with Niamh Richardson of Kilkenny City Harriers first W50, and Mary Watters of Navan AC first W55.
Sportsworld were first of the W35 teams, while Mullingar Harriers proved best in the W50 category.
