White is Trumped

SNOOKER: Defending champion Judd Trump held off a spirited fightback from Jimmy White to book his place in the second round of the China Open.

Trump stormed into a 4-1 lead before White hit back to take the next two frames, but Trump's break of 73 sealed a 5-3 success.

Elsewhere, Jin Long was the last to clinch his place in the main draw with a 5-4 victory over Ireland's Fergal O'Brien.

Rugby: A top Olympic official said he feels that women's rugby has the best potential for Irish medals when the Sevens game is introduced in the 2016 Olympics.

"The IRFU are deciding at the moment how much they will pump into it," said Olympic Council of Ireland's Pat Hickey. "It is their decision, but, in order to win medals, there is a future for female rugby Sevens."

Barry and McGee, the second seeds, beat Ivory Coast's Sylvain Anibie and the Czech Republic's Jan Bleach 6-3 7-5 and will now face Spain's Gerard Gallego-Bertran and Jordi Samper-Montana.
