Christy is cool as ice to prevail in playoff
THE Milky Bars are on the Dublin Chairman, Christy Broe.
The Old County artist is the Gents Seniors National champ.
Christy won the crown in the most dramatic of circumstances at Lakeside in Templemore, Co Tipperary.
Himself and Fermoy's Michael Cahill went into a nine-hole playoff, which proved nip and tuck all the way.
Michael held the slender advantage until the Dublin chief drew level on the ninth hole.
It was then sudden-death. The 10th hole was halved, so it was onto the 11th.
From the tee, Michael was in the bunker. Christy was on the green.
Michael's second shot tumbled to the back of the green, from where it was impossible to make par.
Christy took two putts, and the claret jug. The Crumlin faithful rejoiced.
It was a wonderful victory for a person who has given so much to pitch and putt in Dublin down through the years.
Christy was applauding himself when he learned that the National Seniors Intermediate title was also going to Dublin as Lucan's James Thompson took gold.
