Champions expected to be a big Cup draw

A huge attendance is expected for the upcoming Dublin City Cup international round robin tournament at the Regency Hotel on Saturday 29.

The second year of this joint initiative by St Saviour's Olympic Boxing Club and Smithfield Amateur Boxing Club will pit the Champions of Dublin against the Champions of Europe.

This year, the Dublin boxers drew with the visitors. This year, their ambitions to win could be denied by visitors determined to up their game in the months leading to final Olympic qualification.

On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 boxers from six cities, including Moscow, Kiev, Tallinn, London, Liverpool and Derry, will compete in the newly refurbished St Saviours gym.

The finals will take place on Saturday night at the Regency Hotel. This will be the highlight of an intensive week's training camp for the visitors.

The Dublin hosts have organised a varied programme of cultural and sporting events, with an emphasis on cultural integration, to keep the visitors entertained while in Ireland. Tickets can be booked through the clubs.
