Bowler McCarter on stand-by
GRAEME McCARTER has travelled to Australia to provide stand-by support for the Ireland team currently participating in the World Cup.
The 22-year-old seam bowler has arrived in Sydney where he will be hosted by Randwick Petersham CC, using their base for training. McCarter will also play for a club in Newcastle at weekends.
"Graeme is one of the fringe players who did not make the World Cup squad, but we feel it is important to ensure the next bowler in line is on stand-by, acclimatised, and with match practice under their belt should there be a serious injury," said Richard Holdsworth, the Cricket Ireland Performance Director. "Graeme has impressed the selectors and was unlucky not to make the final 15. A month in Coogee will allow him to further develop ahead of the new season, and be ready and nearby should he be called up."
McCarter has played four times for Ireland taking seven wickets, with his best performance being a match haul of 5 for 30 in the InterContinental Cup win against Scotland in 2013.
