Blake warms up for London

YOHAN BLAKE showed his class ahead of the Olympics by clocking 9.85 seconds to win the 100 metres at a low-key meeting in Lucerne last night.

Blake is seen as the main threat to defending 100m and 200m Olympic champion Usain Bolt after beating his compatriot in both disciplines at the Jamaican trials.

And in what is expected to be his final outing before the London Games, Blake claimed a comfortable victory in a time that has only been bettered by Bolt (9.76) and 2004 Olympic winner Justin Gatlin (9.80) this season.

The 22-year-old reigning world champion is confident he can continue his superb form in London.

"I am on the right path for the Olympics," he said.

"This is where I am supposed to be. I want to remain unbeaten and that's what I am doing.

"I didn't come here to run a quick time but it's still a fast time. Not many guys run 9.85."

F1 in Olympic stadium bid

Plans for a Formula One circuit in and around the London Olympic Stadium are officially now under consideration.

The scheme is one of four being reviewed by the London Legacy Development Corporation -- the other three are from football clubs West Ham and Leyton Orient, along with University College of Football Business, an affiliate of Bucks New University.

Intelligent Transport Solutions Ltd, who are based at Wanstead in east London, have already held preliminary talks with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone with regard to using the stadium as a circuit.

Any potential race would form a second British round of the world championship to run alongside the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Bernie Ecclestone has tentatively given his blessing, stating a month ago ITS Ltd were a firm "bidding for use of the stadium, not to own it."
