Athletics: Fitzpatrick and Pollock deliver fast times

At the BMC Grand Prix in Manchester, Thomas Fitzpatrick came close to his PB when he ran a time of 14:03.95 for sixth place in the A 5000m race.

Just two places behind was Paul Pollock, whose time of 14:04.78 knocked almost six seconds off his previous best. Tullamore's Liam Brady also ran a personal best 14:38.74 for 17th in this race.

In the B race, Clonliffe's Jayme Rossiter finished second in 14:20.18 - another PB. Kevin Seaward finished just behind him in 4:20.89.

In separate women's 1500m races, Rose Anna Galligan ran a time of 4:23.39, while Amy O'Donoghue of Emerald ran a PB 4:23.28.

In Oortegem, Belgium, Brian Gregan of Clonliffe clocked a time of 46.78 secs for 400m at the Putbosmeeting. Shercock's Craig Lynch ran 47.28 secs in another 400m race.

In the 400m hurdles, Jason Harvey of Crusaders clocked 51.85 secs for third, while Anthony Lieghio of Tallaght ran a time of 1:48.95 in the 800m B race. In the 3000m, Brandon Hargreaves of DSD was ninth in 8:10.03.

Ciara Everard of UCD ran 2:02.83 for fifth in the 800m, with North Down's Katie Kirk 10th in 2:07.54 and Aislinn Crossey of UCD 11th in 2:09.41. In the 1500m, Claire Tarplee, who has recently joined St Coca's, was seventh in 4:23.40. In the USA, Siofra Cleirigh Buttner of DSD ran 2:05.14 in the 800m at an NCAA qualifier in Jacksonville.

Marcus Lawler of St LOT tops the sprint rankings after running 10.23 secs for 100m and 21.13 for 200m in Riga last week.
