Aiken gains from Goosen's late start by taking the lead
GOLF: With overnight leader Retief Goosen among the later starters at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters today, his fellow South African Thomas Aiken (pictured) grabbed the opportunity to move ahead of him on four under par by adding a 69 to his opening 71.
Aiken, chasing his first European Tour title, grabbed two birdies on the second and the seventh holes but had to wait until the long 18th for another birdie. However, by keeping a bogey off his card in the calmer conditions the 27-year-old was in with a 69 and four under aggregate.
"It was a lot less windy and there were no gusts like yesterday," he said.
"That made it a lot easier to get round the course."
Englishman Robert Rock, who was one over starting the day after an opening 73, had a blistering second round that included five birdies and one bogey to leave him on three under overall after his 68.
Darren Clarke improved greatly from his opening 78, firing in five birdies and two bogeys to score a 69.
